I like the poem (very useful), but remember that it only works on Yodan verbs. Taberu is an Ichidan verb so it conjugates differently. Ichidan verbs are the ones that usually end with Iru/Eru. The ending conjugation for all Ichidan verbs is simply "Te/Ta". Taberu = たべて(Tabete). Miru = みて(Mite). I hope that helps.
