Swan's Japanese Horror Reviews 39: Nightmare Detective
Review #39: Nightmare Detective Director: Shinya Tsukamoto (iron man, vital) Stars: Ryuhei Matsuda (rampo noir), Hitomi (j-pop idol) Year: 2006 After nearly half a year the Japanese horror reviews are back. Im trying to bring these back better than ever, so now the entire review is composed of clips of the film, so you can get more of a feel for what the movies are like. Thanks for your support and patience with these videos, the next one will be Norikos Dinner Table, the sequel to Suicide Club. That will be later in October. Any comments or feedback is always appreciated, and I hope you enjoy this new phase of reviews. UPDATE: let me know what you guys think of the new review. I personally think this is the best format to go, cuts out the fluff from older reviews and gets straight down to what's important: the film. Glad to see the initial response is positive though! kewl! Looks gory and spooky! My only complaint (though I haven't seen it) is the deus ex machina-esque use of physic-like characters who used to explain the plot in more detail such as in the great film Ringu. Does this seem like a trend in some japanese horror flicks?

I like the clips of the film... but without the jokes at the end something is missing^^
Never mind, great work!

The new style is very incisive and informative but i prefer the older vids were you just talk into the camera and splice in some scenes. I miss the keterol tunes aswell.
Kadadj 2008-10-04
I prefered the vids where i could see you talking with creepy backround music.
Sorry for the bad spelling, im Norwegian. :D

Yay! The reviews are back... but... I prefere the older style that you used, before. This one is... ok... but it was much funner (not a word... lol) to watch before.

Can't wait for the next one! Norkios dinner table is awesome!
... But uh, I kind of prefer to see you in the reviews and not the movie. Some screen shots would be nice, but hearing the movie while you were speaking got kind of tiring after awhile.

look up Kwaidan.
classic stuff + "Zoo" .. think it's a collection of little movies, I was very very surprised when I decided to pick that one up.

I've been waiting for these to return. Thank you for always extending my knowledge in the genre and giving me movies to watch. The new format for your review works great and gives the viewer a hint on what's to be expected from the movie.
Will be looking forward to the next one as always.

I think this new format would be better if you turn down the volume from the TV a little bit. That way I can hear you better; and also you talk a little too fast. But don't get me wrong, I like this format and glad you're doing more J-horror reviews.

It's so great to see you posting one of these reviews again.

new format, just trying to do the videos how i want them to be done. i'm also working with a script on this one so there's no stuttering or countless 'ya knows' lol.
